NGC 7000, The North America Nebula was so named for obvious reasons. This nebula takes a little less imagination than some others to understand how it's namesake came into being.

It resides in the summer Constellation of Cygnus the Swan about 3 degrees east of the bright star Deneb which is not visible in this photo.

Note the high resolution of Technical Pan film. Compare my (2) x 45min stack shot on color PJ400 film taken with the same instrument. Especially noticeable resolution increase is visible in the "Gulf of Mexico" region.

  • Type: Emission Nebula
  • Exposure Length: 1Hr 20min
  • Focal Length: 530mm @ f/3.3
  • Guiding: ST-4 AE=A4
  • Film: Hypersensitized Technical Pan
  • Filter: Hutech LPS
  • Development: HC-110 Dilute B 11min@68 deg
  • Instrument: Takahashi Epsilon 160 Hyperbolic Astrograph
  • Date: 05OC02

Additional Photographic Notes: This is my first real success with Tech Pan. My plan was to combine this shot with my color image for a high resolution color LRGB image but I mis-framed this shot compared to the PJ400 color stack. Tracking error was higher than I would have liked at about A4.
